What is root canal procedure?
The inside of a tooth is filled with soft tissue called the pulp which consists of blood vessels and nerves. This tissue can get infected through trauma or decay. A root canal procedure, performed by your endodontist, cleans out the infection, fills and seals the space. The modern day root canal, different from in “the old days,” is not a painful or dreaded procedure. It prolongs the life of your natural tooth. Eighty to ninety-five percent of the time, it will successfully save the tooth from extraction.
Endo is Greek for “inside” and odont is Greek for “tooth”…it makes sense now why we are called Endodontists.
Why Choose an Endodontist for Your Root Canal
When you need heart surgery – you look for a heart surgeon. You want an expert in the field. Someone with years of experience.
The same would be true when you need a root canal. Even though general dentists perform root canals, not all have specialized training. In addition to dental school, endodontists have received at least two years of additional education. They have become experts in the diagnosis and treatment of root canal disease. Some have even gone on to earn Master’s degrees or obtain Board Certification.
When you choose an endodontist you receive advanced care. You get experience, efficiency, and the latest technology to both increase your comfort and insure the best possible outcome.
What a general dentist would consider a difficult case, we would consider routine because that’s all we do.
