Creating a Culture of Self-Accountability

Creating a Culture of Self-Accountabilit

Jessie and Stephanie

Interview with Michael Austin, SAE’s Practice Administrator

Our most important asset at SAE is our team! Bar none! Our practice’s future success is dependent on each team members continual growth and development. Dale Carnegie’s book, “How to Win Friends and Influence People,” talks about leaders having certain goals for their people but he says it’s much more effective if the people have goals that they set for themselves. That’s what we are doing here at SAE. Creating a new culture of self-accountability and self-awareness.  Each team member is now responsible for his or her own results and outcomes.

Doing the Right Thing

July 30, 2018 by saendo

With almost every choice you face, there are two questions you contemplate.

Michael Austin - Doing the Right Thing

Michael Austin

The first question you might ask yourself is this. “What is best?” When you ask that question you could be thinking, “What is best for me, the patient, the company? What is best for the planet? The question, “What is best?” can bring various underlying motivations into play, creating uncertainty and confusion.

The other question you might ask is this. “What is the right thing to do?” That question takes you to a different place altogether, a higher place, a place of conviction and peace. This question sets underlying concerns aside. This question takes the high road. More often than not it brings clarity. You know in your heart what to say, where to go, what to do.

That’s how Michael Austin, group administrator at Southern Arizona Endodontics explains this company’s main guiding core value: Doing the right thing. From day one, Michael and his team teach this basic value to every new employee. They explain, [Read more…]

You Can Train Skill But Not Attitude

You Can Train Skill But Not Attitude

Smiles and a warm reception at SAE

Everyone who walks through the doors at Southern Arizona Endodontics (SAE) can feel it. There is something special in the air–it’s in the smiles and the warm reception patients receive.

Why is this so? According to Michael Austin, SAE’s Group Administrator, there is one clear hiring philosophy: You can train skill but not attitude. This philosophy has been the key to SAE’s incredible success since 1984.

Our founder, Dr. John Hughes’ main goal was to help people when they really needed help. Today, that vision is carried on by his partners. They prioritize patient care above all else and treat employees like family.

We Commit to Constant and Never-ending Improvement at Southern Arizona Endodontics – Part 2

January 10, 2018 by saendo

Several leaders throughout the company were asked to provide examples on the use of C.A.N.I. (Continuous and Never-ending Improvement) within their departments.  The following are real life examples of C.A.N.I at SAE.

Our HR Coordinator, Sue Krause said, “When new team members first start at SAE, the human resources department spends quality time helping the recruit integrate with the team and company culture. It is this orientation period where the integral concepts that help make SAE so special are introduced, explained, and encouraged.  One of the most important concepts is C.A.N.I.”

Constant and Never-Ending Improvement at Southern Arizona Endodontics

October 31, 2017 by saendo

Constant and Never-Ending Improvement CANISouthern Arizona Endodontics (SAE) has been one of the most successful dental facilities in Southern Arizona since 1984, but, to them, that’s not enough. SAE strives for better patient care. Every department at each of their facilities has adopted the C.A.N.I. philosophy, a mindset that focuses on Constant and Never-Ending Improvement.

SAE Cares

February 23, 2017 by saendo

When Ashley Marlink began working for Southern Arizona Endodontics as a dental assistant six years ago, she quickly learned there was something different about this practice. Not only was the level of patient care remarkably superior, but the people who worked there all exhibited much more than just a desire to get a paycheck. From the doctors to the receptionists, these people truly cared about others and their efforts were not just in words, but in action. They also took those caring actions outside the walls of the office, to the Tucson community at large.

SAE “Love Others” Philosophy

Ashley observed that the doctors and assistants happily volunteered their time and skill during Hopefest– an annual Tucson event where medical professionals and others volunteer their skill and time to help the hungry, needy and under-represented members of our community. Then during the holidays, Ashley watched as underprivileged families’ needs were provided for through gifts and donations from the SAE staff. No, this wasn’t just a job towards a paycheck for these folks; there was a “love others as you love yourself” philosophy that permeated every aspect of the practice.

SAE - Celebrate Our Past and Embrace our Future

SAE – Celebrate Our Past and Embrace our Future

Patients know the moment they walk into Southern Arizona Endodontics that we are not like any other dental office they have ever encountered. There is a difference which inexplicably puts them at ease and confirms they have been sent to the right place to have their endodontic needs addressed. The powerful surprise of this positive experience is in direct contrast with what most people have heard about getting endodontic treatment.  But none of it is a surprise to us. In fact, we work very hard, and with focused intent, to make every patient’s experience very rewarding. For a dental practice to be able to provide above-and-beyond patient care, something very intentional is occurring.

5 Reasons this is Not Your Grandfather’s Root Canal

May 20, 2014 by saendo

Can you think of some old sayings or terms that have absolutely no meaning in modern day America? For instance, your grandmother may still refer to your refrigerator as an icebox even though the iceman hasn’t “cometh” since the 1930’s. Or how about those of us who still insist we’re buying an album or cassette tape instead of a CD?

We here at Southern Arizona Endodontics would like very much to clear up the misconception of one old saying in particular: “It’s not as bad as getting a root canal!” Root canal procedures have come a long way since your grandfather may have had one, and yet it’s still getting bad press! These days a root canal procedure is not much more involved than getting a cavity filled. With the modern procedures, technologies and materials available, getting a root canal is nothing to fret about — so let’s clear up a few of those archaic misconceptions!
